NURTURE AND PLAY (NaP) IS AN EXPERIENTIAL, PLAYFUL WAY TO STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A CHILD AND PARENT.
In Nurture and Play (NaP), we use singing, pauses to reflect on parenthood, and gentle and soothing touch to wonder and share in the child's experiences. NaP strengthens a parent's emotional connection to their child and empowers them in their parenting role.
A trained NaP facilitator guides the participants in NaP sessions through songs, games, and discussions centered around the parent and child relationship. Sessions typically last 30-45 minutes and can take place weekly or twice a week. During the seven sessions, parents learn to wonder about their child’s mind, build their reflective skills, allow themselves to become more emotionally available to their child, and strengthen the relationship with their child.
NaP is an evidence-based research program that has proven to strengthen the emotional bond between parent and child. NaP can be used with fathers, mothers, and caregivers, and can begin during pregnancy and after delivery until age 5.
